So I started reading Pokémon Adventures (also known as Pokémon Special) recently. You know if this series is supposed to be the darkest and most mature interpretation of Pokémon ever made, then why does it assume I'm stupid? (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v640/AnimeDude360/pokemonplothole.jpg)
I think that mistake comes up in pretty much all the first gen canons. At least animeverse Bill had an excuse, given that he apparently knew enough about Mewtwo to have a carving of it on his door (although it was never explained HOW he knew given that it was prior to the first movie). But still. Also, "darkest and most mature" is a relative measure. People sort of blow some minor incidents out of proportion. Meanwhile Diamond and Pearl Adventure! has two attempted suicides (one of them a terrorist attack), and even the lighthearted Magical Pokemon Journey has an extended scene about HUMAN SACRIFICE up to the characters saying goodbye to each other (ok so it turns out to be a joke by a group of Marowak but there's no way of knowing that at the time).
I always wondered why Mewtwo was #150 when the pokedex says that it's a clone of another pokemon... which was not also added to the list at the same time. I know in the real world it's because Mew was meant to be super-top secret from players, but there's really no in-universe explanation for it. And I never really read Magical Pokemon Journey. It was so girly my body tried to absorb my testicles when I just looked at the cover.
I have no idea. I gather in-game that people KNOW about it because Fuji's diary is just laying out there for anyone to see, but either way, Mew should have at least been recorded before it.Also, MPJ is a very awesome manga. It's got wonderful characters, and actually builds on the pokemon themselves. And the take on the world is singular, because there's no journey or battling--it's everyday life with these little monsters, the kind we see hinted at in all the towns in the game and elsewhere, but never expanded on save for this comic (well, and a couple of chapters of PokeWake but no one's even heard of that one).
The building where you find Fuji's diary has been abandoned for quite some time. It's over-run with wild pokemon and looters. So it's possible no one knew it was there.
